Sec. Em Chan Makara Looking for Development Partners to Help Children with Disabilities

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council (DAC), Em Chan Makara, distributed 20 wheelchairs donated by the people of Japan to the disabled at the National Center for Infants and Children on August 16.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Rehabilitation and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council, Em Chan Makara, met with a Chinese delegation representing the China Disabled Person’s Federation (CDPF) to discuss the provision of assistive devices for persons with disabilities in Cambodia.

Sec. Em Chan Makara Encourages Youth with Disabilities to Compete Internationally

The Secretary General of the Disability Action Council organized an online IT competition for young persons with disabilities on July 25 and 26. Four lucky winners will be sent to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to compete in a live IT competition from October 24-29, 2023. Five other competitors will be able to participate in the competition online.

Meeting on the development of accessibilities for people with disabilities

The drafted Declaration of Inter-ministerial about the arrangement of physical infrastructure in creating favorable condition for people with disabilities will soon be taken into review and make it official. Additionally based on this Declaration of Inter-ministerial, The government of Cambodia will enforce this regulatory of making accessibilities for people with disabilities in a joint action between Ministry of Social Affairs Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation and Ministry of Land Management.

The drafted Declaration of Inter-ministerial of the arrangement of physical infrastructure which was arranged by Disability Action Council through consultation with relevant Ministries has been taken into review by high-level technical team on September 12^th 2016 with the participation of H.E Lim Van, Secretary General of Ministry of Land Management, H.E Tith Chan Tarin Vice-secretary General of Ministry of Land Management, H.E Em Chan Makara Secretary General of Disability Action Council along with officials from the two Ministries.

According to H.E Em Chan Makara Secretary General of Disability Action Council, The purpose of this Declaration of Inter-ministerial is for introducing a specific guideline from the government in order to create accessibilities for people with disabilities which was based on the Law of the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Persons with disabilities. As for public buildings which was built before this Law, will be given 5 more years in order to make their building accessible for people with disabilities.

H.E Em Chan Makara also stated that the arrangement of this Physical Infrastructure in creating accessibilities for people with disabilities will be made with a specific Minimum Standard.

Furthermore, Relevant Ministries also have to make accessibilities for people with disabilities such as Transportation, Driver’s license and also specify the vehicles which were being used by people with disabilities.

H.E Lim Van Secretary General of Ministry of Land Management has given his agreement for the Declaration of Inter-ministerial in creating accessibilities for people with disabilities and has requested Disability Working Group of Ministry of Land Management to cooperate with Disability Action Council and Ministry of Social Affairs Veteran and Youth Rehabilitation in order to check and review this Declaration of Inter-ministerial in accordance with the guidelines from The office of the Council of Ministers. He also urged both groups from the two Ministries to give extra attention to this Declaration so it can be soon made official.
