H.E Vong Soth “The participation of people with disabilities is important for our country’s development”

H.E Vong Soth, Minister of Ministry of social affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and also the chairman of Disability Action Council has said that “Cambodian Government has recognized the important of the participation of People with disabilities in the development of our country. If we can invest in people with disabilities, it mean that our country is rich in human resource and could compete on both national and international market”. 

This statement of H.E Minister was made on the morning of September 22th 2016, on the occasion of the International Deaf Day under the theme “With sign language, I am Equal”. The ceremony was held at the Ministry and was also attended by H.E Em Chan Makara, Secretariat General of Disability Action Council as well as many others people with disabilities. 

H.E Minister added that Cambodian government also focus on the integration of Deaf people into society as well as creating opportunities for Deaf people so that they can participate in building our society, a society for everyone, a society without barriers and discrimination, a society based on human rights. 

Furthermore, H.E Em Chan Makara secretariat general of Disability Action Council has said that there are 545 of deaf youth which are receiving education and in 2016, 14 out of 22 deaf youth equivalent to 65% have passed grade 12 national exam. This data has exceeded the passing data of Ministry of Education Youth and Sport which is 62% out of the students that have taken the exam. 

In addition, H.E Em Chan Makara express his gratitude to NGO such as CDMD, ADD, Aide et Action and many other NGO that have supported the event.
