His Excellency Minister Vong Soth: “All Human Rights organization and NGOs could visit Prey Speu Centre without obstruction 24/7
H.E Vong Soth, Minister of Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has told Mrs. Rhona Smith, Special reporter of the United Nation that the Ministry has cooperated with Phnom Penh Capital hall in order to improve many infrastructure as well as providing health care to homeless people and people with mental retardation who are staying at Prey Speu Social affairs Centre. Human rights Organization and NGOs could go and visit the Centre 24/7. This is according to H.E Em Chan Makara’s word on October 12th 2016, Spokesman of Ministry of Social affairs.
H.E Em Chan Makara said that the statement was made in response to Mrs. Rhona Smith’s words which is to create a favorable conditions and providing health care for people with mental problem and people with HIV who are living in Prey Speu Centre and also to make it easier for them to contact their relatives.
The same spokesman of Ministry of Social affair also added, H.E Minister of Ministry of Social Affairs has informed the guest that the Ministry has called for other relevant organization especially Human Rights Organization to help in developing Prey Speu social affair Centre but to no avail, there hasn’t been any support. Instead Prey Speu Centre was made into a violation of Human Rights case.
Prey Speu Centre is a place for educating homeless people, beggar and prostitutes. After it has been reorganized by the Ministry of Social affairs, the management and overall condition of the center that people has been complaining about have become better.
Nowadays the number of homeless people in Cambodia is decreasing thank to the cooperation between Ministry of social affairs and other relevant organization. This decreasing rate is an achievement that gave us confidence in facing other countries.
