H.E Em Chan Makara: Children with disabilities and their family are very satisfied in receiving wheelchairs donated by Japanese volunteers.

H.E Em Chan Makara, Secretary General of Disability Action Council (DAC) stated that the handing over ceremony of 90 wheelchairs which organized by DAC and JICA has received much appreciation and satisfaction from the Children with disabilities and their family. The wheelchair that the children received are modern, new and also very easy to use.

H.E Em Chan Makara said that there are some challenges on how to operate, maintain and repair the wheelchair because the donated wheelchairs are modern and our understanding of these wheelchair are limited. However, our team will continue to put in more effort and look for solution to resolve the inconvenience and help children with disabilities to understand these wheelchairs better.

This statement of H.E Em Chan Maraka, Secretary General of the Disability Action Council was mentioned in the wheelchair donating event which was held at the Ministry of Social affairs, Veterans and Youth rehabilitation on February 01st 2017. The total of 90 wheelchairs was donated by Japanese volunteers led by Mr. Oda Kensuke.

H.E Em Chan Makara added that in 2017, 90 units of wheelchairs donated by Japanese volunteers are divided into 5 types. The 1st type are wheelchairs that has long backrest, medium-sized wheel and has belts on chest, waist and leg. The 2nd type are wooden medical walker with small wheel. The 3rd type are Baby strollers. The 4th type are rollators with brake (walking frame). The 5th type are wooden chair with soft cushion.

H.E Em Chan Makara stated that since 2010, the Disability Action Council has received wheelchairs and Medical walkers 5 times, for a total of 580 units and $55100, including

The first time was in 2010, received 80 units of wheelchair and $9300 which was allotted to 11 rehabilitation centers for helping people with physical disability, spinal injury and children with Intellectual disability.
