Minister Vong Soth led Cambodian delegates to attend tenth three day conference with countries members ratified United Nations Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities in New York

On June 12, 2017, His Excellency Vong Soth, the Minister of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) and the President of Disability Action Council (DAC) led his delegates to attend the tenth conference on United Nations Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities which conducted for three days started from 13th to 15th of June 2017 at the United Nations head office in New York, America. 

The spokesman of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation,  and the His Excellency Secretary General of Secretariat General Action Council Mr. Em Chan Makara, had informed at the Phnom Penh airport before his departure that, the conference topic will be talking about the second decade of Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, enable persons with disability/their representative organization, to fully participate and be included into convention implementing. 

The participants would be the senior government officials come from 160 countries around the world. “ His Excellency Tuy Ri, the Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations, His Excellency Soun Meng Long the Head of Administrator of Administrative Department and other officials of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation would too be attending within this important event “ Mr. Makara said.   

“The conference aims to achieve three objectives” he added.

  1. To identify and make solution on the effect of discrimination against persons who have disability. To promote inclusion and fully participation of persons with disabilities in order to achieve millennium development goal (MDG) this can be compliant to the convention.
  2. To enable persons who live with disabilities to be including and fully participating into all charity event.
  3. To promote inclusive development and implement the agenda of new city Habitat Iii. 

Just a reminder, Cambodia has ratified United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities UNCRPD on December 20th 2012 and came into effect on January 19th 2013. Beside the convention, Cambodia is also a decade disability country signatory in Asia Pacific Incheon Strategy. In addition, the Cambodia’s government has issued the law on the Protection and the Promotion of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PPRPD) in 2009 and declared to make National Disability Strategic Plan 2014-2018. These are shown that the government is always support and pay high attention to people with disabilities.
