H.E Em Chan Makara expressed optimism that in the next several years, public bus will be made accessibility for People with Disabilities

Posted: November 10, 2017

H.E Em Chan Makara, Secretary General of Secretariat Disability Action Council, expressed optimism that in the next several years, People with Disabilities will be able to have access to public bus. As currently, public bus does not have ramp for wheelchair user and it is also difficult for People with Visual Impairment because there is no voice alert system at each bus stop.

This statement was made on November 7, 2017 when he attended the Forum on “Disability Support in having access to Infrastructure and Public Transportation” at Tonle Bassac II Restaurant which organized by Handicap International & QUT University.

H.E Em Cham Makara informed Fresh News that, currently People with Disabilities are having difficulty in using public bus because the bus is equipped with accessibilities such as slope, priority seat for People with Disabilities, space for wheelchair user, and the bus stop and bus’s interior does not have voice alert system.

H. E Secretary General Em Chan Makara called for all relevant institutions to have more attention to disability sector, especially in making accessibilities for people with disabilities. This request was made while the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, urged all relevant ministries and institutions to continue their efforts and attention on disability.

Please be informed that the current public bus does not have sign for disability, pregnant women or elderly yet but it is expected that these issues will be revised and made better for the citizen.
