His Excellency Em Chan Makara propose to use the word “Person with Disability” instead of “disable people” in the purpose to eliminate discrimination

His Excellency Secretary General of Secretariat General Action Council, Mr. Em Chan Makara, on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youths Rehabilitation, His Excellency Wong Soth, has proposed in public at AEON mall Supermarket to replace using the term of Person with Disability instead of disable person in order to eliminate discrimination and be valued. His statement has made during the disability exhibition occasion on December 18, 2017 at AEON mall supermarket in Phnom Penh. In addition, he said that the reasons to propose media to do so as it is the action of showing our encouragement to people with disability. On the other hand, it is also align with international context since many countries has agreed to swop the term “disable people to People with Disabilities”. “The term disable people is not the wrong thing to call but we have to be aligning with global usage” He added.

Mr. Em Chan Makara continued by stressing that, calling them as disable people, it seems showing inequality and inability between them and those without disability. In terms of social affair’ minister, His Excellency Secretary General of Secretariat General Action Council,  Mr. Em Chan Makara plans to propose the government to replace officially from disable people to people with disabilities as it shows value and encouragement to whom with disability.
