Secretary General of DAC: Although no encouragement from NGO, still the government carries out its duties to help People with Disabilities in Cambodia

(Phnom Penh): H.E Em Chan Makara Secretary General of Disability Action Council, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation has made its clarification that, even without the urge of some NGOs, the Cambodian Government has the obligation to helps People with Disabilities in Cambodia without any doubts.

The speech which was made in Ratanakiri province, H.E Em Chan Makara, Secretary General of Disability Action Council, said that the government has been working hard with many partners and Ministries to help develop and improve the disability sector in Cambodia.

Secretariat General, H.E Em Chan Makara said that some NGOs seem to not be aware of the activities involving people with disabilities which the Government and Disability Action Council conducting in Cambodia. H.E Em Chan Makara added «Even without rooster crowing, the sun still rises» whichmeans that, even without NGO’s urging, the Government of Cambodia remains active in the field of disability and will works diligently on this sector.

Thus far, the Disability Action Council of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has been actively works with many Ministries, Institutions and partners in the development of disability field in Cambodia, including the recruitment of persons with disabilities into the Ministries and provincial departments in accordance with the sub-decree on determining the rate of the recruitment of persons with disabilities, which almost reached 2 percent.

As for the works of creating accessibility for persons with disabilities in the office, including toilets and entrances, is being implementing, which it has given persons with disabilities a better access compare to before.

In the cooperation with the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction regarding the request for new construction owners to build accessibility and for old buildings to facilitate accessibilities, both Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Land Management have conducted a series of processes in accordance with the practical work
