PM Calls for More Compassion for PWDs
PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Honorary Chairman of the Council for Disability Action Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued a message on Friday in celebration of the National and International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He has expressed concern for the well-being of all persons with disabilities in the country and encourage all citizens to continue to improve the welfare of people with disabilities for the benefit of the disability sector in Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has mentioned the compassion and dedication of the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni and His Majesty the Queen Mother, who always take care of the disabled persons by giving a precious royal gift and to the children affected by Covid-19.
The Prime Minister has called on all ministries, institutions and competent authorities at all levels to implement the National Strategic Plan on Disability 2019-2023 to effectively disseminate measures to prevent Outbreaks of Covid-19 disease affect people with disabilities and encourage all persons with disabilities to maintain health measures to protect themselves from Covid-19 disease.
He further urged ministries, public and private institutions to encourage people with disabilities who have the qualifications and ability to fulfill their roles in their institutions without discrimination in line with the provision of access to public places for PWDs including special parking arrangements such as ramps, equipment, handrails, specialized bathroom doors, and signage in all public and private locations.
At the same time, he called on the Ministry of Information to guide all public and private radio and television stations, as well as all media outlets, to increase broadcast time with sign language translation, especially information on outbreaks and prevention Covid-19 to people with disabilities, while the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation must accelerate the disability identification of all people with disabilities across the country to make it easier for them to access public services and Private.
According to the report of the General Secretariat of the Council for Disability Action, there are nearly 700,000 people with disabilities in Cambodia, while the situation of people with disabilities is constantly being taken care of by the Royal Government to make all person with disabilities are able to participate in the development of the country like ordinary citizens.
Cambodia celebrates the 23rd Cambodia International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 39th International Day as “Environmentally friendly and sustainable” on Friday.
