DAP News published the reaction of Disability Action Council, expressing a request that the court and authority take action against the rape of a woman with disability at Kampot Province

Disability Action Council, which has Samdech Techo HUN SEN, Cambodia’s Prime Minister as the honorary president, has requested the authority at Kampot Province to take action in accordance with the existing law, against the suspect of the rape case of a woman with disability, Kea Tha Vong Krom Village, Sala Khang Lech Commune, Bon Teay Meas District, Kampot Province on 07 September, 2014. The Disability Action Council has also expressed the commitment of following up this specific case until it achieves justice.

H.E. Em Chan Makara, Secretary General of Disability Action Council considered the action of the suspect Boo Yath as cruel and against the Law of the Protection and the Promotion of the Right of Persons with Disabilities. H.E. has requested legal action in order to bring about justice for the victim.

As is his attention to persons with disabilities, even though his H.E. is busy attending training in Australia, he has reacted and requested the authority; “Authority of Kampot Province, please proceed with this case to the court in order to get physically disabled people justice for this cruel action of Boo Yath”

In addition, H.E. Secretariat General of Disability Action Council has expressed, “whether this case is a sexual harassment or rape to the suspect Boo Yath, for his cruel action he requests the court take action and sentence this person to the extent of the existing law”. Secretariat General of Disability Action Council will follow up this specific case.

H.E. Em Chan Makara has also requested the Under Secretary of State of Ministry of Women Affairs, Deputy Governor of Kampot Province, Mrs. Korng Sao Thon, who is a member of the Disability Action Council and Director of Department of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation at Kampot, to cooperate in order to bring about justice for her as a woman with a disability.

Yesterday, 7 September 2014, the authority had arrested 53 year old Mr. Boo Yath, who lives in Kea Tha Vong Krom Village, Sala Khang Lech Commune, Bon Teay Meas District. The arrest was conducted after the complaint of rape of a physically disabled person, 52 years of age while she was sleeping in her house on 5 September 2014.

Although the suspect was arrested, he is denying the charge of rape of the victim a physically disabled person; he claimed he just touched her arm and leg, as funny while he was drunk.
